where did you get that hat?

I have been thinking about the roles we assume in relationships. Not in a bedroom type way, I'm currently full of the ill, the only thing I'm doing in bed at the moment is self medicating and feeling very sorry for myself. More about the process that seems to be inevitable in any established relationship wherby it becomes taken for granted that character traits and behaviors become fixed; person a behaves in this way which means that person b can behave thusly.
I read something today which claimed that in the ideal relationship ,( let's just pause to consider how ghastly such a thing would be....) the woman should be 27% more intelligent than the man. I offered this snippet up to Alphaboy over breakfast.I argued that whilst I may be more educated than him I was not convinced that this was the same as innate intelligence. I know more stuff, but have an unremarkable mind, am not as quick or as original  as him. In a rare outburst of chivalry he demurred. Something of a moot point as, at the moment, the cats are at least 27% more intelligent than me.
Later on we had the following exchange,

Me " Angel, do you think I'm a comedy genius?"
Alphaboy " Christ, you're being needy today...no,I think you're quite funny but not your actual comedy genius. They are two quite different things you know..."
Me " Oh, not as funny as you then?"
Alphaboy, " of course not, you're a bird....."

Leaving aside the whole northern male thing I do think it's interesting that he will grant me intelligence but not the funnies. I think this probably comes down to the established patterns in our relationship, which I'm prepared to admit are mainly rooted in truth. He gets to be the goodlooking, cool, funny, outgoing, and badly behaved one. I get to be the clever, needy, emotional one. With better breasts and far superior taste in music obviously. I guess it's all about balance. At least this way we never have to compete with each other. In 90% of cases there would be simply no contest.
