Just finished reading this in one greedy sitting. It's very barbed and bitter but mainly brilliant. The story of a bunch of graduates from Vassar in the 1930's it is shockingly modern and nowhere near as dated as say, The Golden Notebook. Wonderful on the competitive nature of some female friendship groups, the monstrousness of unchecked ego and social anxiety it is also very funny. Like Nancy Mitford crossed with Dorothy Parker but meaner.
